Moody Maternity Photoshoot at Po’olenalena Beach | Maui Babymoon Photography

When Gina and Sanu reached out to me about capturing their babymoon photos on Maui, they had a very clear vision: moody maternity session with a dramatic feel.

Location. We decided on Po’olenalena Beach - this spot has everything that works perfectly for a moody aesthetic: lava rocks that add depth and texture, open beach with golden light, and dramatic skies at sunset. It’s one of my favorite spots on Maui for pictures!

Outfits. Gina started in a burgundy fitted dress, which looked absolutely stunning against the black lava rocks. The deep, rich tone of the dress created a striking contrast with the beach surroundings. After a while, she changed into an off-white fitted dress that paired perfectly with the golden sunset light. Sanu wore neutral tones, keeping the focus on her while still adding to the overall mood of the images.

Posing. For this session, we wanted to create the “moody” aesthetic with serious, unsmiling expressions, dramatic posing, and the use of natural contrast between light and shadow. The result was a gallery full of emotive, cinematic images that felt both intimate and powerful!

I absolutely loved working with Gina and Sanu on this maternity shoot. Their vision pushed me creatively, and Po’olenalena was the perfect backdrop for the style they wanted. The photos turned out beautifully - timeless, emotional, and romantic!
